Trail of Tears Ride Sept. 14-17 2007

National Organization NewsJackson writes:

As many of our members are of Native American heritage, it seems fitting that some of our Sisters might be interested in joining up with the Trail of Tears Remembrance Motorcycle ride.  I spoke to several women during our First SIS Rally about this event and none was aware of its existence.  Up to 100,000 riders get on their bikes and follow the trail once taken by thousands of Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw and members of other nations who were displaced by white settlers.

The first leg of the ride will be on September 14, 2007,  from Cherokee, N.C. to Cartersville, GA.  Another leg, from Chatanooga, TN to Florence, AL , will follow on the 15th.  The next day, the 16th, riders will leave from Muscle Shoals, AL (near Florence) and ride to Hot Springs, AK.  The last day, the 17th, the riders will leave Hot Springs and go to Okmulgee, OK.

At 3:30 on the 17th, riders will be greeted by the Creek Nation in ceremonies to be held at the Muscogee Council House Museum.

There is no charge or fees whatsoever for this Commemoration.

Go to www.trailoftears-remembrance.org for history, maps, and agenda.
